Bob Barr's Skeleton Closet

Bob Barr is a heck of a character. An ultra-starched, conservative, thrice-married former CIA man who loves Pink Floyd and Bob Marley and was in the Borat movie, he criticized Bill Clinton for licentiousness yet licked whipped cream off the chests of two buxom model just to "help leukemia research" (sure, Bob).

I mean, just read this character study of him from the Washington Post. Reallly, I'll wait. SEE?!? Listing his scandals is a bit tricky because he converted from moralistic Republican to ACLU-supporting Libertarian. So the abortion hypocrisy issue is less incriminating than it used to be, though even Libertarians are rightly criticized for infidelity.

Quotes

"Older women just love him -- they come up and pinch his little cheeks. Most people would think Bob is rude, and he's not. . . . He's a bulldog, but he's a gentlemanly bulldog." -- Barr's (third) wife Jeri

"The most difficult thing about politics is dealing with people with really bad breath. You wouldn't believe! Some people -- just awful halitosis" -- Bob Barr

"The world is full of idiots." -- Bob Barr

"Never run a 100-yard dash in a 90-yard room." What does that mean? "It doesn't mean anything," Barr says, and then adds, sternly, "It's a joke."

"The curse is that people view him as being this bombastic character -- who really is more thoughtful and has a greater degree of moderation." -- Matt Towery, former head of Newt Gingrich's GOPAC

[Barr's presidential race] "could enhance the things he enjoys doing -- speaking, pontificating, writing." -- Matt Towery

[Sean Hannity] "was being downright unpleasant, as I recall, [when he interviewed me]. There's never an excuse to not be pleasant and civil." - Barr

"I still plan someday to do a book on Bob Barr's laws of the universe." -- Bob Barr

Abortion Hypocrisy

As an outspoken anti-abortion Congressman, Barr called abortion murder. Yet he paid for an abortion for his first wife, Gail, which was documented by Larry Flynt, the infamous publisher of Hustler Magazine. -- Sources -- Top

Infidelity

There is no absolute proof or admission, but Barr during his 1985 divorce proceeding, Barr used a legal maneuver to refuse to answer questions on whether he'd cheated on his second wife with the woman who is now his third. -- Sources -- Top
